The water in the sound was out this morning after the big blow we had last night, as you can see the geese are walking where they once paddeled.
These photos do not do the "Victory at sea" feel and sound of these waves justice. The wind has stirred the water into a frothy powerful force capable of much destruction. The sound of the waves is much like a never ending freight train or jet engine the spray off the ocean spreads many miles inland. The ocean is powerful and beautiful force not to be taken lightly. I have seen mere humans advance on the waves misjudging their power only to be taken down. This is a sight to be enjoyed from a safe distance.

That looks like the house on "House Island" off the causeway between Roanoke Island and Whalebone Junction, right? JennySlash's first question was "where did all the water go?" - my assumption is that it all landed on Mann's Harbor. We've not been out there in weather like that - I've read in a number of books about kayaking the Banks that there are times when the water in the Sound is that low but THAT's just... freaky.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm not sure if that island is called house island but there is only 1 house on that marsh island and you can only get there by boat. Itis in the roanoke sound so I think you have most likly have seen it.
Tell JennySlash that most likly Manns Harbour saw alot of that water but we got it all back and then some today.
Happy Thanksgiving :-)
