Another great day at the beach. My company that was to come this week baled so I will be spending next 6 days chilling and today I took a stroll on the beach and was treated to a cool ocean breeze and pelicans, I love pelicans. They look so prehistoric; the photo I shot today was with the sun behind the bird in such a way that when enlarged the bones could be seen I think it looks cool. Gotta get a telephoto lenses!

It was great morning on the Outer Banks and since I got off work early (translation on time) I decided to take a quick trip to the beach. It was a nice morning, the ocean was flat, early morning fishermen and folks just out for a walk were treated to a very placid sight. In my opinion this is the beginning of the best time of year here. The July visitors seemed to be in a hurry all the time. The traffic is bumper to bumper and sometimes has a mean feel to it. I guess it’s got to be the families and young professionals, they are so accustomed to running from place to place that when they get to the beach its hard for them to slow down. This time of year brings a slower group of folks. You see fewer families with school age children and more with very young ones, you also see older people. I think there may be a more experienced group of people that visit the Outer Banks this time of year. Visitors who know that there is little to “do” here other than visit the beach, eat and shop so why be in a hurry. This is the time of year when walks around the Wright Brothers memorial and the Elizabethan gardens are pleasant. A drive to Ocracoke where you can rent a bicycle and explore the island is always nice. I don’t think people can truly enjoy the Outer Banks if they can’t let go and just lay back.

Boatjacked by a bear

In love the radio program calledWait Wait -- Don't Tell Me! . It deals with current events in a humorous way. This weeks "story" that hit my funny bone hard was one dealing with a Canadian fisherman who was Boatjacked by a bear. It was done towards the end of the show in what is called "lightning fill in the blank." I hope you laugh out loud we all need some funny stuff right now.

After the oppressive heat we have been having this mornings 8 am temp of 79 degrees with 42% humidity seemed like heaven. Last night while looking for meteors (I saw maybe 3 dim streaks; bummer) the air almost seemed… cool? Well July is past us and here on the Outer Banks July is the hottest month of year, and the busiest. In August the tourist start to thin out and the day light becomes less harsh as the sun begins its slow march south, I even saw some geese. I smell fall in the air. Fall is still 5 or 6 weeks away and we still have hot weather ahead not to mention the storms that seem to come at the end of August and the first of September but one of my favorite times of year on the Outer Banks is close at hand. I do not like summer, I am glad it is on the wane.

Preseid meteor shower: no show

I got up early this morning in hopes of viewing the Preseid meteor shower. On a good night in a good location a person can see between 70 and 100 meteors an hour. I had hoped to try catching some on my camera using a prolonged shutter speed. I knew I would have to contend with the moon, which would cut down on the number of meteors seen but when I saw the cloud cover I went back to bed; there would be no meteor viewing this morning. I will try again tonight and early tomorrow morning who knows maybe I’ll get lucky. I did see a few when I was at my cousins place last weekend and the meteor shower does run from July 23-August 22 but this morning was the peak. Oh well if things don’t work out this year there is always next year when the peak comes during the new moon and the viewing should be a lot better.

Every year my cousin Jack and his wife Dianna host a family and friends get together, an event started by Aunt D and Uncle Jack as a way for us to get together for a reason other than a funeral. The two of them work very hard on this and I am very appreciative of all the work they put into it. For me this is an opportunity to interact with a part of my family that I would never see otherwise. Thank you Jack and Dianna it was a great time.

It’s the first day of August and man is it a scorcher. Hazy Hot and Humid!!! There is no way that it’s not going to be busy at work today. People drink lots of NON alcoholic beverages and stay inside during the midday sun. I'm getting ready for my trip to the Pennsylvania mountains for the annual friends and family party at my cousin Jacks. I'm leaving on Friday but since I'm working just about every day I have to pack in stages. I'm getting the camping gear together, those of us that want to can camp on my cousins farm that way we can party way into the night and no one has to worry about drinking and driving!! I wish I had a big truck so I could whip on by Floyd county VA and pick up my camper but I'll just have to rough it in a tent. Any hoo when I get back I have to get ready for company that’s coming after that it will be time for school to start. Boy this summer has just whipped by.

We had a bit of a blow come through last night. It's kind of invigorating watching a storm as it approaches. The air becomes thick and it gets almost hard to breath then all of a sudden the wind picks up and you feel the hot humid air rushing against your skin. As the wind increases in speed you see the clouds roll in then the air turns cool and accelerates past you like a freight train. You gotta love it!

I have always liked storms I just never tried to take pictures in them. A digital camera makes that a lot easier. I tried for the longest time to shoot individual bolts of lightning but to be honest the lightning wasn’t that impressive this time. For the most part it hid behind the clouds hiding from me like it knew I wanted to take its picture. After awhile I just set the shutter to stay open for 15 seconds and these are some of the photos I got. Not impressive but fun to try for.

I tend to think a lot. I try to keep my thoughts positive but lately that has not been easy and since I seem to relate to the world through picture and song (events bring songs and pictures to my mind and these in turn affect my emotions) lately this song has been playing around up there so I decided to post it. It is starting out to be a nice day on the Outer Banks but it looks like a hot one so I need to get some outdoor work done early but as I was sitting on the deck enjoying my morning “cup” of coffee and contemplating what all had to be done I started to admire my hanging baskets. This year I made my own baskets using cherry tomatoes as the plant and it worked great. The biggest problem with putting plants on my deck is that it faces west and the afternoon sun is brutal. Theses plants require almost a gallon of water each daily but it is well worth the work to me; besides how hard is picking up a hose and watering some plants. You wont see many red tomatoes on these plants because I eat them as soon as I see them!

Today was a great day on the Outer Banks. It has been hot but not the oppressive hot of last week. As you can see from these photos it was a busy beach day. I can’t remember when I have ever seen the beach so crowded. Perhaps the damage done to the gulf coast caused people to come to the Outer Banks or maybe the economy has caused folks to travel closer to home either way its busy this year.

I got back from the mountains yesterday after spending 6 nights and 5 incredibility relaxing days there. I sure felt the heat and traffic as soon as I hit the beach. No one seemed to give TS Beryl any notice and with clear skies and hot temperatures I can’t blame them. Today the only sign of the storm was Jim Cantore from the weather channel. He seems to show up any time there is even a hint of a storm. Last year a friend of mine actually got his autograph, Oh well. Other than the occasional band of rain the day has been clear and hot perfect beach weather if you like that kind of thing.

This time of year I pretty much stay inside during the day coming out early in the morning and late in the evening. I firmly believe in beating the heat but next month I will be forced to venture on to the beach; my cousin and her kids are coming down and when someone travels 380 miles to the beach you can bet they are going to go to the beach and I will be “dragged” along!

In my back yard I have a cloths line I don’t know why I have it I haven’t used it in ages.

But this year it did not go to waste.

Working in my yard I kept hearing this chirping sound. I knew it was the sound of bird chicks but it sounded so close. I looked in the tree and did not see any nests so I kept on working but the sound did not go away. Then it hit me the sound was coming out of the cloths pin bag. I knew it had been a while since I used any of the pins but I did not realize how long it had been. I hope those little guys make it. Mom and dad did not place the nest in the wisest of spots. This is the dog’s yard and the dogs have noticed the sound also. I will keep an eye out but when these guys start to fly there could be trouble.

Weather on the Outer Banks is a bit overcast but the temperature is mild and the air is breathable. last week it was very hot and oppressive, very typical weather for July here. Tomorrow is promising to be nice with a high only around 80 and plenty of sun. the tourist that are leaving will be thankful for good weather on their way home and those that are coming will look forward to the week ahead hoping that it stays nice. Me I'm going to spend the next few hours sleeping, I worked last night and we were busy (a lot of the folks I met weren’t having the best of vacations). This afternoon some friends and I are going to the movies "POTC" is finally out.

I must be getting old. Yesterday I went to a party like I do every July 4^th. It was great party, not too many people, a lot of laughter, a lot of food and just plain good fun. The party had all the normal party things including swimming in my friends “pool” which just so happens to be the Albemarle Sound. Well folks after 4 ½ hours of that I was tired and I laid down for a power nap in preparation for the trip to the beach to watch the fireworks. I awoke at 9:15pm to the sound of boom-bang, I had missed the trip to the beach but all was not lost sitting on my deck I was treated to a fireworks display courtesy of many neighbors and their back yard light shows.

Of course a really big fire work went off yesterday. The space shuttle Discovery set “sail” at 2:38pm on independency day. Good luck to the crew; wish I were with them (physically!).

Last night we had an early fire works show courtesy of Mother Nature. The lightning never really showed its self it just lit up the clouds in shades of pink, yellow and white. The light show lasted about an hour and was followed by a cold wind and rain. From time to time a flash of man made fire works sent up by folks eager for an early beginning to the 4^th of July celebrations would brighten the sky. Today is the 4^th of July the birthday of our nation. Happy 230^th birthday America

Hazy, Hot and Humid summer on the Outer Banks

Summer has hit the Outer Banks. The past week has been Hazy Hot & Humid the three H’s. Traffic is intense and people are everywhere. The “mass” of people is not that noticeable on the beaches since there are no private beaches and people are able to spread out but when it storms the tourist hit the stores and therefore the streets. Dare county has no public transportation so the only way around is by car. A lot of bike paths have been built but they are of little use when it rains. Now we need a good storm every once and awhile its like a mini Christmas for the retailer but this last week has been a bit much, the Outer Banks has been hit by the same storms that have been flooding the North East, but it looks like sun is on the menu for today so all those folks who have spent their vacation week inside will be able to say they made it to the beach when they went to the beach.

I on the other hand will make one foray out into the world of vacationers to my favorite vegetable stand (Tar-Heel II located at the Seagate North shopping plaza) pick up some fresh fruit and vegetables return home and veg in the AC until late afternoon when I will venture to my little 12’ by 3’ inflatable pool, light a citracel candle and enjoy the last few hours of my day off.

Not much in the garden this year. I kept the plants to the more heat tolereant ones and cut down on the total number so I could better keep up. Does look like its going to be a good year for tomatos, thoes bushes are plum full.

Today my intention was to get up early and go to the beach and get few beach shots but to be honest I don’t like the beach this time of year and I HATE the crowds and traffic so I worked in the yard instead. I just returned from a week in the VA Mountains. I went short on cash this time due to some unexpected expenditures last month but it was just good to get off the beach and go to where I hope to call home some day.

My 16 year old son came with me and it was nice spending time with him. I know that soon he will not have the time nor the inclination to go on trips with his mother. I had encouraged him to bring some video games and movies both of which he declined to do. “You’re not going to have anything to do.” Said I “Exactly” said he.

We did not “do” much but we did visit the Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge park way. We went to The Jacksonville Center in Floyd VA to get some information on Solar and Wind power for the house I plan on building. On Sunday while my son hooked up with a friend I went to a Bookstore/Coffee shop in Floyd to hear Fred First read from his new book “Slow Road Home”. (the bookstore is called Notebooks I cant remember what the coffee shop is called but they are right above the book store and serve excellent coffee at a very reasonable price). Monday we took a friends daughter for her swimming lessons in Blacksburg and swung over to Christiansburg to hit Barns & Noble and check out the mall (we don’t have a mall here). I guess when I read this we were “active” but we spent a lot of time on my little 4 acre piece of heaven.

I did a lot of walking and exploring the land like I do every time I’m there, my son spent his time sleeping. I’m not kidding he slept all the time. When I asked him about it he smiled and informed me that at home he was always busy so he decided to spend his vacation sleeping! Today my son looks fresh, he is out and about doing all the things he does and I look and am exhausted dreading all the laundry and other things that have to be done before I return to work tomorrow.

I envy my son’s ability to just relax, to sleep away a vacation, but I would not give up one of my walks. I enjoy looking at the trees and plants, animals and birds, listening to the sounds that explode in the “quiet” of the country, smelling the air both sweet and foul. I love the feel of the mountain sun and wind. I like finding out about new things and then looking for them. The new life I will be starting in a few years is so exciting to me that I take every opportunity to sneak a peek. I can’t just sleep away my time there. I want to savor every minute I spend on that little piece land I call my own.

It is good being home. I love sleeping in my own bed and taking a real shower. I love hearing from my friends and family. And the Outer Banks will always be home, this is where my children were born and raised and where many good friendships have been formed but I feel more “at home” in those mountains. I know I will miss the beach but I love thoes mountains and one has to follow the heart from time to time.

I saw some odd kites on Jockey’s Ridge Sunday afternoon. I don’t have the slightest ideal what was going on and I did not feel like walking the ½ mile or so up a sand hill to find out. But it turned into a nice day. We have rain again this morning; maybe the rain is going to be a morning event for a while. With the storm down in the gulf we might get some weather latter on in the week.

Well it’s another rainy day on the Outer Banks. For me that’s a good thing. Rain keeps the temperature down and helps the plants but for those folks whose kids just got out of school and who just started their vacation its not such a good thing unless they look on the bright side, this is a day to relax and vacation. Don’t go shopping; read a book, play a game with the kid’s heck if nothing else watch TV. I would like to see some people do nothing on their vacation but that’s not going to happen. It seems to be in our nature to pack every thing we can into that week or two we take off each year. Our lives are so busy that it’s difficult to just sit back and watch the world go by.

Next week I start my first week of vacation in the mountains. I plan on taking a little time each month and going to my little piece of solitude. This year I will be forced to take it easy because I have little money left in the "vacation" till. I don’t have to pay for a place to stay I have my camper. I can buy food at the local store and cook on the grill. I have several books to read, one I bought last summer to read while I was up there. It will be interesting to see if I can make it on vacation with nothing planed to do. Can I sit idly on my deck and just watch the cows and wild life. Will hiking the property line be enough to keep me busy. Will I finally finish that book, heck start that book I bought last year. Tune in in two weeks and find out.

It was a good hockey game last night looked like overtime for a little while there. I was rooting for Edmonton I hate to see a 4-0 win in any tournament but now Hurricanes just get it over with and win!

Yesterday was June 6, 2006 or as some like to call it 666. It was the day that expectant mothers feared to the point that they asked their doctors to induce labor if there was any chance at all their child would be born on that day. It was the day that many rational folks looked at with apprehension I must say that I consider myself rational but I knew that the dark cloud that has been following me this year was not going to let an opportunity like 666 pass me by and I was right.

I spent all yesterday morning working in the yard admiring my tomatoes and flowers just enjoying being home. When I was finished I walked into the basement and noticed that there was a wet spot near the chest freezer," self" I said "that’s not good". I moved the freezer and noticed that the water was not coming from the freezer it was coming from the wall. "Self" I said "this is really not good". I knew there were no pipes in that wall so I went up stairs and looked in the closet that holds the hot water heater and sure enough the hot water heater was shot. "Self" I said "this sucks".

I started shopping around for a plumber to replace the hot water heater and got a case of sticker shock. $600 seemed a bit much for 30 minutes to an hour of work. I had seen a hot water heater replace but I had never actually done it before, "self" I said "you can do this".

Folks I have now officially installed a hot water heater and it only cost me $320 and 3 hours time!!!

It’s a beautiful day on the outer banks!!

By the way 06-06-06 comes by every 100 years just something for you superstitious folks to think about.

Believe me when I say my brother lives in one of the nicer parts of town

I took my camera with me when I went to the gulf coast but in all honesty I just wasn’t in a picture taking mood Biloxi is an absolute mess and New Orleans while trying to put on good face is still a mess. Both my sister and my brother live in FEMA trailers. There is a lot wrong with FEMA BUT they provided both my brother and sister with a roof over there head. Each of the trailers was equipped with everything needed to live, pots and pans blankets and towels. My sister was provided with a cell phone. The conditions are not ideal but like my brother says “you have a place to sleep and take a shower”.

Another long two weeks has gone by but this has been a less than enjoyable one for my family. My sister’s 21 year old son died on the 22^nd of May in Mobile AL. As could be expected my sister took it very hard and I was asked to make the arrangements. Needless to say it was a bit of a logistical nightmare I live in North Carolina, the boys father lives in Atlanta GA and my sister lives in Biloxi MS. I have found out why there are funeral directors. If not for Rick of the Ascension Funeral home in Mobile I don’t know what I would have done. He helped me coordinate this whole mess and now my sister can have some closure. In her mind her son is at peace.

Looks like another great day on the Outer Banks, could not ask for better weather. I worked this weekend, nights, so today is a piddle around the house day, between light duty chores I’ve been sitting on my deck listening to a new CD by Springsteen called “We Shall Overcome the Seeger Sessions” folks if you like blue grass and jazz you will like this CD. It’s a bunch of old songs; I mean OLD songs put to music featuring horns, strings and percussion instruments. The music by it self is worth buying the CD. I’ve always liked Springsteen but this is not his typical work if you get a chance to listen to it do so it's fun music.

The next few days promise to be good weather wisw but with the Memorial Day weekend coming up and with it the beginning of the summer tourist season on the Banks things will be hopping. I have to work a lot this next week so between my stints in the ED and on the MS floor I’m going to be seeing a lot of folks who really don’t want to see me. Take care out there an ounce of prevention is worth 6 weeks in a cast.

I shot these photos yesterday evening while my youngest was at TaeKwonDo. The pier in the distance is the Avalon pier in Kill Devil Hills. As you can see it was a very nice end to a nice day. That evening we had some heavy rain with a stiff wind and lightning. There were no getting shots of lightning last night

Oh by the way the water was “cool” but there is no stopping the kids on this beach when it comes to water sports. That is a skim board the young man is holding. You slide it along the surfs edge and then jump on it and "skim" across the water. I don’t advise older well endowed folks try it; that little baby is the reason for a lot of broken wrists and ankles.

When we buy something it often comes with a book or pamphlet, now many of us take a look at this book or pamphlet, a very brief look, and put it aside. Well I’m here to tell any who read this that if you read the book or pamphlet you will find that it is instructions on how to operate the thing you bought!

Tonight I was called off of work so here I am wide awake, I slept today in preparation for tonight, so I walked out side to enjoy the night air and looked up, there were a few stars showing through the clouds and I thought to myself it would be nice to take a picture of the stars but I don’t think my camera can do it. Then I thought about it a little longer and said to self “you know the camera came with a book you could read about shutter speed maybe you can take a picture of the stars” Well you know what I can and I did. Boy I’m glad I read a little of that instruction book.

Future talk

In the next few years I hope to build a home in the Virginia Mountains. This is one of those things that I have been thinking about for a long time. I say to people “I’m moving to the mountains when my son graduates in 4 years, 3 years, 2 years”. Two years isn’t that long from now. I have the land and I have been looking at house plans for a while; I know I want a passive solar home that is why a southern exposure was so important for me. I know all entry ways to every room must be at least 3 foot. I plan on living in the home until I die and I want to be able to wheel my self a round. I know I want a wood stove and I know I want a small home, a 1000sf or less and there goes my problem. I can’t find many good plans for a small home with an efficient floor plan so I’m going to have to make one up. Making up your own floor plan is not that easy. I’m not an architect so I feel any plans I make should be reviewed by one but I have to find one in the area I want to live in who is familiar with earth walls, radiant floor’s and solar power. I need to plan the site layout. I know the area where the house is going to be will need to be terraced. I have to decide what type of septic system I want the hill is very steep, do I try and buy another acre of flatter land or do I put in the more expensive system. This is why people hire contractors but I know I can do this. It is going to take every bit of the 2 years left to adequately plan this thing out. I’m open to any input.

Well I have been pondering the house questions long enough for today there are petunias to plant, weeds to pull and dogs to play with before I take my nap in preparation for work. It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Ramblings

*I think on of the most difficult things I have done as of late is try and find other Outer Banks bloggers. I'm sure they are out there. The Outer Banks has an eclectic culture that just calls out to be blogged. Trying to find other bloggers from Dare County is for me like trying to find a needle in a hay stack but I’m no quitter some day I will find that needle.

*Few things in life seem to bring joy to the lives of my dogs like a tennis ball does. I can give them new bones, the good ones, the ones you buy in the meat department, nothing but natural flavor, and I don’t get the reaction that I get from the tennis ball, ears up, eyes bright and focused, muscles twitching in anticipation. They will chase a ball until I get tired and say “all done” then they take their ball lay down and proceed to saturate it with slobber. Ah the simple things in life.

Yesterday we had some impressive storms come through so last night I tried to shoot lightning from my deck. By the time I figured out how to take pictures of lightning the light show was about over and the rains came. I think that for a first time these are not too bad.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The weather was perfect with mild temperatures and low humidity. I spent much of the afternoon relaxing on the deck listening to music. Tomorrow looks like it will be just as good so when I get back from Manteo I plan on spending my mothers day doing what I enjoy (at least this time of year) working in the garden.

I'm back

Well things have calmed down a bit so I’m going to try writing again. Needless to say mom has kept me very busy with her broken arm and all but she had surgery almost 2 weeks ago and is doing fine, enough said.

Things are building up here on the outer banks, tourist and quiet a few property owners are down some hoping to beat the summer rush. Gas prices don’t seem to be keeping folks away. We have seen quiet a few dummies, as in stupid ass people in the ED. Why do the young behave so? I have tried to go back 25 years and ask myself questions like why do you drink and party until all hours of the night? How do you get up in the morning and function at work? What are you thinking racing that dam car down the center of town don’t you know someone might get hurt and while we are talking about it why are you on the water drinking I don’t care if it’s a motor boat or sail boat its dangerous! Another summer on the Outer Banks nothing’s changed in 25 years except that there are a lot more people.

On another note the garden is coming along quite well. I planted tomatoes from seed and they are standing 18 inches tall and have main stems as big around as my thumb. I hope they do well. I did cheat a little by putting some miracle grow potting soil in the holes with the tomatoes. Last week I was feeling sorry for my self, you know wa wa wa woe is me, so I fed my addiction and bought 3 rose bushes and way too many inpatients, but they are the most beautiful flowers. The Perfume Delight rose is a purple pink very fragrant rose that is so pleasant to both the nose and the eye. I also picked up an Orange Rose it has a very unique color but not much fragrance and then just a simple Peace Rose I just like them. I have already had several cutting’s my other roses are doing very well this year. They seemed to have liked the mild winter.

Well after writing about the garden I want to get back into it. I have included a link to the Nags Head Pier’s video cam so that any one who visits this sight can take a look at the beach. Other piers have them also Avalon Pier which is in Kill Devil Hills has one. My son’s use them to check out the waves and its kind of neat to watch people fish.

To day is the last day of April 2006.

Four months have passed this year each month passing faster than the month before.

April is a transition month it’s a time of year when preparations are made for the summer to come. The air begins to warm, trees expel their green pollen and dawn a new covering of almost transient levees of green yellow and red. The dogwoods and azaleas bloom, flowers show their faces and birds sing. This morning I found a tiny bird egg shell and held it in my hand wondering what type of bird the chick that hatched from this egg would become. It is a month of new beginnings.

But this month already very busy just by being April was made even busier by responsibility. My responsibility to family has been almost overwhelming.. I am in a profession where compassion and nurturing is expected. Well I’m not an overly nurturing kind of person. I like my space and my freedom. When I begin to feel backed in a corner by “responsibility” I get resentful. I do not like being in the “tween” generation. That place where children, ageing parents and ones own desires pull in different directions I long to walk my personal path but that path is so hard to find. Its times like this I long for that golden age of 50 when I will be free. My youngest will be college and I will be in a small cabin on the side of a hill overlooking Buffalo mountain. In the morning I will watch wisps of mist as they form on the open pastures and then are taken away by the gentle morning breeze. In the evening I will watch the insects and listen to the still air as I relax on the porch as the sun sinks behind the mountains. Ah but this is only a dream (for now) today the grass needs cutting, laundry needs to be done, dogs need to be walked and mom needs to be helped.

some bikers on bikers weekend

Boy has it been a busy few weeks. Both my mother and middle son spent time in the ER; it’s been a while since I spent time on the patient’s side of the ER visit and I DONT LIKE IT!!!! My mom broke her arm and my middle son just seems to have a sensitive vagal response under the right conditions pain makes him pass out he’s going to have to be careful and that kid has always been rough and tumble. Other than doctor visits I’ve been busy working in the yard, spring is here! I tooled around town looking at the big bikes that came to town during biker week (April 4-8 this year). Riding on of those things scare’s the heck out of me but I like to look at them. Over the Easter weekend I got to go to the mountains it was too short a visit but I needed to get off this Island! The next three days (night’s) I’ll be at work and before you know it another week will have past.

light show

Boy we had some weather come through last night with a light show that would have impressed Doug Thompson of Blue Ridge Muse. We had lightning that appeared to jump from cloud to cloud causing the air to rumble and the whole sky to light up for what seemed forever. We had great bolts of lightning that came straight down with a mighty crash-bang-boom and a brief bright flash of light. It rolled through for hours but surprisingly left little rain. This was the big low that caused so much damage in Kentucky and further points west and north. I don’t know what damage it caused around here I haven’t turned on the radio or TV but nothing in my immediate area seems to have suffered any. Storms like that are amazing in their beauty and fierceness. I wanted to stand out in the yard and watch the light show but feared the possible consequences of such an action and instead watched from my window. Storms like that are usually caused by two opposing fronts that collide. This time the cold front won pushing our warm weather aside for a little while. There will be more storms after all it is April and “April showers bring May flowers” of course around here we always lose a few trees and roofs along the way.

Oh my, another week has gone past. This time of year always fly’s by for me. There is sooo much to do and I seem to be doing it all at once. Work picks up, folks taking a little time off gives me a little more work to do. This is the time of year I try to get repairs done around the house and in the yard. Fresh paint on the doors and trim make the house look cleaner and picking up yard debris helps get the yard ready for use. This week was also made busier by my trip to Norfolk to see my niece and her family. They recently moved to the area, it’s nice to have family only 2 hours away and it was great seeing her children, some for the first time!!

Time spent on the computer this week has been spent checking out Windows XP. My son put his own computer together and now he needs an operating system. I have been trying to figure out which is best the Windows XP home edition that sells for $199 or the Windows XP OEM version that sells for $80. Decisions decisions. I have also been looking at designated e-book readers I think I have settled on the eBookwise-1150. I want something that will allow me to just read. I don’t need a palm pilot, I just need to be able to download something I want to read be it a book or an article or a bunch of new policies I’m supposed to go over and be able to take it to the beach the mountains or bed and read just like I would if I were reading a book or magazine. Sony has a new one coming out in the “spring of 2006” but it’s over $300 and I’m just not going to spend that kind of money on a book reader. The eBookwise-1150 sells for around $140 after tax and shipping is added and it comes with a memory card. It has a few drawbacks but the good seems to out weigh the bad. Hummmm……

Well tomorrow starts another very busy week and it starts with less time thanks to the beginning of daylight savings time.
